Whatever you have heard about Zen, first you need to know it’s not about just being calm in every situation. Of course, more peace of mind in a daily life is always one of the consequences of practicing Zazen, but it is the result, not the aim of practice.
The aim of Zen is to see into your own nature and live a life according to it. That’s why the most important thing is practicing mindfulness so that you could know exactly how your mind is working and what is the truth behind your thoughts. Zazen is not an easy practice, even if the rules themselves are pretty easy to understand. During practicing you seem like you’re just sitting and staring at the floor, but what is happening with your mind then is not that easy to say.
Taisen Deshimaru was one of the greatest Zen masters who created Association Zen Internationale. After 1970 he became the head of Japanese Soto in Europe. We prepared this music video with the master's teachings to help you understanding the Zen life path.
